SCS Training Course

Secondary Trauma

This training course is beneficial for professionals working with and supporting foster carers and adopters pre and post placement.

Children who are in foster care / adoptive placements often carry with them behaviours and responses that are a result of disrupted attachments and early complex trauma and abuse. Parenting these children can often result in the trauma being imported into the new family system and can elicit reactions and responses of anger and hopelessness.

“The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to be able to walk through water without getting wet.” *(Rachel Remen)

Course content

This training specifically addresses identifying possible issues around secondary / vicarious trauma that may impact or be impacting on the potential stability of placements.
